I am certain that everyone will agree that Autumn has certainly arrived. The weather is colder, my jumpers are making an appearance and I have fallen leaves appearing all over my garden. I even went out and picked conkers yesterday! With the beginning of Autumn comes another exciting time for the interior obsessed – new collections! Autumn/Winter collections are by far my favourite and I always look forward to them coming out. The dark, warm-toned colours, the blankets and big mugs to carry the large quantities of tea I start drinking – it’s perfect in every way!
With that in mind, I am excited to share with you the new EFTERTANKE range coming to select Ikea stores next month (Lakeside, Leeds, Southampton, Tottenham and Wembley). The collection is th the result of a partnership with a social enterprise called Doi Tung and the pieces are handcrafted by skilled artisans from Northern Thailand.
Due to the way it is made, the pottery in the collection is full of imperfections, those that only come from crafting something by hand. The clay leaves a beautiful colour and finish and are really classical pieces that would stand the test of ever-changing trends.
The history of hand-woven textiles is a rich one to the Hill Tribe people of Northern Thailand. This history is something that the Doi Tung wanted to respect and so natural weaving became one of the first livelihood programmes creating stunning cushion covers, towels and tablecloths.
I cannot wait to see these products for myself. I can only imagine how soft and cosy the fabric is, making it perfect for autumnal evenings bundled up on the sofa with the candles lit and a warm cup of tea in hand.
The EFTERTANKE range will be in selected Ikea stores from October 2017, ikea.co.uk
